What is Apostille?

“Apostille” is a French language and it will be pronounced as "Ah-pos-tile". It is defined as "The Hague Convention Abolishing the requirement for Legalization for Foreign Public Documents". Or precisely, The Apostille agreement is an International pact summarized by the Hague Conference on Private International Law. It specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory Countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory Countries.

What is the process of Apostille in India?

In India the Apostille of the documents are depends on the types of Documents like Educational, Non Educational and Commercial Documents.

Educational Certificates like Degree, Diploma Certificate etc. will be Apostilled by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) after the Attestation of Human Resource Department (HRD) or Higher Education Department of the State of issuance.

Non Educational Certificates like Birth, Marriage, PCC, Expedience, Medical Certificate etc. will be Apostilled by MEA after the Attestation of the State Level Attestation Department like RAC, GAD, Home Department etc.

Commercial or Export Documents will be Apostilled after the Attestation of Chambers of Commerce (CoC)
